And four in a row for the MSB of an extravagant Matt Morgan! -BeBasket

Undefeated after three days of the championship with Monaco and ADA Blois, Le Mans Sarthe Basket intended to continue this Saturday. And despite a trip to the JDA Dijon court, the Sarthois managed to do so by winning in extra time (100-110) thanks in particular to a huge Matt Morgan.

A rhythmic and balanced first part

From the beginning of the game, the two teams printed a hellish pace. Under the impetus of the trio David Holston (19 points and 5 assists for a PIR of 20) – Chase Simon (21 points and 3 rebounds) – Markis McDuffie (22 points and 5 rebounds for a PIR of 29, finally freed by Nikolic’s departure? ?), Nenad Markovic’s men widened the first gap (15-9, 5′). More aggressive defensively, the Manceaux caused more opponent turnovers and relied on the effectiveness of the tandem Matt Morgan (32 points on 9/12 and 5 assists for 34 PIR) – Williams Narace (18 points and 7 rebounds) to pick up the score ( 17-16, 7′). At the end of a very disputed first quarter, JDA Dijon took the lead (24-19, 10′). The intensity did not wane in this second quarter. None of the teams wanted to fall behind in this first half. Led by a good Abdoulaye Ndoye (14 points and 5 assists), MSB took control of this match (29-33, 15′). This meeting between the two teams benefited Elric Delord’s team, who led by a small point at the break (41-42, 20′).

Back from the locker room, David Holston continued his momentum. The leader Dijon allowed his team to regain the lead (53-48, 24 ′). In the tough offensive of this third quarter, the Manceaux saw the locals distance themselves, forcing Elric Delord to stop the bleeding (61-50, 25′). But as usually happens this Saturday afternoon, the Sarthois were not worried and returned to retake the score, angering Nenad Markovic (62-61, 28 ‘), who moments later doubled a board. And when the JDA felt the tide turn and the MSB got back in touch, the Burgundians could count on the experience of David Holston to make a difference. With ten minutes to go, Dijon maintained a 4-point lead (72-68, 30’).

The JDA Dijon, carried by its public at the Palais des Sports Jean-Michel-Geoffrey, widened the gap at the best of times in the wake of Markis McDuffie (86-78, 36′). Lagging behind at the start of the fourth, the Sarthois closed the gap again thanks to the activity of Matt Morgan (86-83, 37′). In a crazy time of money where the two teams met blow for blow, MSB relied on the composure of their American leader, author of 15 points in the period (!), to take control before Chase Simon did not equalize, after a disputed action by Gregor Hrovat, and did not send the two teams to extra time (94-94, 40′).

And Chery leaves the carpentry…

Away from home in this extra time, Dijonnais charged a 9-0 entry and saw the Manceaux recover distance in the best of times (94-103, 43′). Guided by an exceptional Matt Morgan, an impressive Williams Narace and a decisive Valentin Chery during the extra five minutes (11 points, including 9 in extra time, and 9 rebounds), the MSB finally won 100-110 maintaining their invincibility with four hits in like many encounters.

The reactions (into the microphone of France 3 Regions):

David Holston: “We had the game in hand. The momentum was on our side but we didn’t make the necessary stops, we lost some rebounds. So yeah, they put up big shots, but we didn’t know how to bring the point home. We are 2-2, we will have to come back with more concentration in the next game. »

Terry Tarpey: “It is always difficult to come to play in Dijon. But this season we have players who work all the time, who never give up. If we had thought of meeting at 4-0? Why not ! The guys really got the job done in the preseason. That game was clearly the toughest of all, but another tough one is coming at home against the Mets. We continue, we keep the rhythm! »
