After the discount, the strike.
Last month, Total’s announcement of a 20-cent discount sparked a black gold rush at service stations in the region. The energy giant showed off the 95 liters of unleaded petrol at around €135, with several pumps temporarily running dry.
For ten days, it is a strike, renewed in particular at the Feyzin refinery, which poses a risk of stock shortages. Employees are demanding a 10% pay rise by 2022, while Total has made particularly big profits, thanks to rising oil prices.
Queues that can last up to an hour and a half
S the Rhone seemed pretty safe from gas station closures so far, since a few days ago the list of stations in total or partial break has only gotten longer. It is not uncommon now to find desperately blank signs on the road, in front of stations, or breaking messages in terminals, reports France 3 Regions, further demonstrating queues that can last up to an hour and a half, along the Lyon ring road.
With all this, when fuel is lacking in one place, there is often another. How to get your bearings and avoid burning gasoline unnecessarily… to find something? Le Progrès gives you good advice, among others.
Fuel prices website
We test for you this site, governmental and therefore official (prix-carburants.gouv.fr). The result is great ease of use since it allows you to select, among other things, the desired fuel, the department, the municipality, a sign and even a route, and obtain a list of nearby stations.
The collaborative map
The penurie.mon-essence site consists of a map that lists open service stations and available fuels, in real time, based on user statements. Just hit the pump icon to find out what fuels are missing from a station. The card is available as an app with Essence&CO, available on iOS and Android.
Apps similar to Waze
Another trick, to allow users to see where there is fuel nearby, are driving assistance and navigation assistance mobile applications such as Waze. The latter is also based on the government site, but also on a regular interactive update, through shared users.
In the Rhône as elsewhere, local or departmental discussion groups give rise to exchanges on the subject, often in the form of calls for help: “No more gasoline, who can tell me where there is? It is up to each one to see the one in their town, to avoid going around.
TotalEnergies, for example, offers a map on its website, which allows you to show only the stations where the fuel you are looking for remains. The information update appears to be correct. However, a disadvantage is that some stations do not appear, depending on the level of zoom on the map.
There are also applications for smartphones to find out the availability of fuel at service stations. Some dealers have one. Non-exhaustive list: Gasoil Now (on Android and iOS), Fuel Flash (Android/iOS), Gasoline & Co (Android/iOS) or Less expensive station (Android).
