a new store open a little out of the ordinary at McArthurGlen Roubaix, baptized “Alter”. Located at the entrance, in a yurt-style buildingthe store is managed by the Public Condition. she offers northern designer clothing and accessoriesand a space vintage thrift store. alter will inaugurated in music and dance Saturday, October 29, 2022 from 3 pm, with surprises.

In the middle of the central corridor, a yurt
In McarthurGlen, a new boutique opens, and it surprises! In the first place, it is not located like the others along the façades, but in the heart of the central nave. Its structure is original: everything in curves, in wood and slate, a bit like a yurt. It is located under a sound installation “with fringes” that shudders with the passage of the wind.
Plus, the space collides with all the major brand stores found at McarthurGlen: At “Alter” (Latin for another), you’ll find designer clothing and accessories for sale made from recycled fabric and thrift store goods. It is run by Antoine and Alex.
Slow fashion in the heart of a big-brand mall
Antoine Gatie has already been running a store in Lille, Mercerie Friperie, since October 2021. “I create clothes from recycled fabrics, I specialize in patchwork. You can find my creations here. I selected several designers, most of them northerners, who also work in upcycling: Thon Mayo, Originel, About à Worker, Violoo, Sapé comme Pépé…”
It is also about offering within the shopping center “a consumer alternative, based on ‘slow-fashion’…”

An opening with music and dance on Saturday, October 29
From 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.: hip-hop, afrobeats, dancehall with Dj Set Don Jordy
From 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.: dance battle. Come see the 9 dancers compete: Petit Écume, Nawar, Simon, Empress, Michael, Floyd, Michaela, Léna and Mando who will try to win a “Money Price” or selected vintage clothing from the Alter store! The battle will be hosted by Bash and Zen Omnizone.

and soft.

The first concept store of La Condition Publique
Another surprise: The store is an offshoot of Condition Publique, the city’s cultural flagship, located about 500 meters from McarthurGlen.
Why ? Jean-Christophe Levassor, director of Public Condition, explains: “We responded to the call from the Ministry of Culture under the Recovery Plan to be one of the ‘creative cultural districts’. This required a commercial component. La Condition Publique is a place for exhibitions, concerts, cultural events, but also a space for creators, artists, around reuse. We even have a neighborhood cooperative that has created tote bags to sell in the store.”
The Condition Publique team also hopes that this store will be a great showcase for their dynamism and make people want to come and see what Condition Publique has to offer.
Eco-responsible and artistic structure
To be consistent, the store was created in an “eco-responsible” mode, with reclaimed wood, plastic tiles made at Condition Publique with the “Condition Plastique” group, vintage portacabin, and ceramic tiles made by Roubaix-based Ateliers Jouret, and baked at the Village des Métiers d’art in Desvres.
For McarthurGlen, this association is also interesting: “The center has a sensitivity for all things artistic. We have responded to this project with a differentiating offer from our major brands, which will allow us to discover creators and artists”, specifies Dorothée Voreux.
The store will open on Saturday 29th October in a big way, with prizes to be won.
