Wolves' 'Big Three' hand Lakers their fifth straight loss

Wolves’ ‘Big Three’ hand Lakers their fifth straight loss

East Wolves/Lakers will remain as the party where russell westbrook (18 points, 8 rebounds) was once again, for one night (if not more?), a rookie backup. In fact, for the first time in 14 years, he sat on the middle bench, leaving Lebron James (28 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals) is fighting as best he can to end his own black streak, in the absence of Anthony Davis (back) due to injury.

Without “AD”, Minnesota took advantage of this to have an excellent Rudy Goberto (22 points, 21 rebounds) inside, but also anthony edwards (29 points) and Karl Anthony villages (21 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists), to martyr the Los Angeles defense.

Enough to win (111-102), after a generally controlled second period, and push “Purple & Gold” even further at the beginning of the season…

WHAT TO REMEMBER

Russell Westbrook’s new role. For the first time since his rookie season in 2008/09, the ‘Brodie’ started a game on the bench, so he could play more as the main ball carrier. If it took him a little while to warm up, the 2017 MVP managed to get into his game. Him specifically planting 10 points in the second quarter, being aggressive, to get the Lakers back in touch. A good contribution, in terms of energy, to lead the Californian bench and help it dominate the Wolves team (47 to 22), despite several unfortunate errors (6/17 in shots, 5 turnovers and 5 fouls).

too imperfect lakers. Between their 22 turnovers, which cost them 25 passing points, or their 9/29 at 3 points, the ‘Purple & Gold’ lacked cleanliness and direction. However, there was room to walk away with more than just another defeat but, weighed down by too many mistakes, which are unforgiving against a playoff candidate, Darvin Ham’s players still had to bow down. As of now, the hour is serious in California, with this 0-5, and one wonders what could turn the tide…

TOPS/FLOPS

The Big Three of Minnesota. Between them, Karl-Anthony Towns, Rudy Gobert and Anthony Edwards scored nearly two-thirds of their team’s points (72 of 111). In turn, they were able to press where the shoe presses in Los Angeles, that is, close to the circle in the absence of Anthony Davis, but also off in sequences. Gluttonous, Gobert was the most consistent of the three, proving effective from start to finish as Edwards and Towns shone in the third quarter (16 points) and fourth (14 points) respectively.

✅ LeBron James. If the setbacks accumulate for the Lakers, the ‘King’ nonetheless takes the opportunity to continue writing his legend. Last night, he thus became, ahead of Karl Malone (and despite a half-staff address), the record holder for games with more than 20 points in the regular season (1,135). A new statistical achievement to add to the list of him, already immensely provided…

Taurus Prince. For once, it wasn’t Jaylen Nowell who stood out the most on the Wolves side off the bench, but the former Hawks and Nets player. Author of 13 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals in 26 minutes, he was simply the leader of the second unity of Minnesota, with its versatility, reliability and efficiency. To reproduce, therefore.

The Reaves/Gabriel duo. Off the bench, Austin Reaves (12 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists) and Wenyen Gabriel (8 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 blocks) showed great things alongside Russell Westbrook. Voluntary, his activity in attack and defense was good for the Lakers, as soon as he entered the court. We wouldn’t be surprised to see Westbrook’s trio used more often, and at the same time, in the future.

patrick beverly. More than the clumsy Lonnie Walker IV (6 points, 3/10 shooting and 0/4 shooting from 3 points), the Lakers missed “Pat Bev” a lot. Because, for his return to Minnesota, he still delivered a tacky performance: just 6 points in 30 minutes, 2/4 shooting. Too uninfluential — not to say ghostly — offensively, he wasn’t downright convincing defensively either. Also, ending the game with an “over/under” of… -23, in other words, the worst of the game.
