“And aside from the 2022 World Cup”…
Why this section? Because there are many new products this fall, and you certainly expect to see them all on our “Mondial de l’auto” mini-site, where you traditionally find new models from all manufacturers.
However, since several manufacturers have chosen not to be present at this edition of the 2022 Paris Motor Show, a certain number of new products will not be exhibited at the Porte de Versailles in Paris, and in particular the one presented in this article. However, to give you a comprehensive overview and meet your expectations, we have chosen to publish them on the Caradisiac mini-site dedicated to the Paris Motor Show, but in a special section “And outside the Paris Motor Show”. .
Lately, it has become increasingly difficult to distinguish a restyled model from the first version. And this is also the case of the fourth-generation Mercedes A-Class, which is going through this test of the traditional mid-race refreshment after four years on the market. There are plenty of optics with a different light signature, modified shields, redesigned rims, or a few other minor bodywork tweaks. But to tell the difference on the street at first glance between the first version and this restyled A-Class, you will have to be very careful.
Same observation inside where we find the two large digital screens (still 10.25 inches each as an option) and an almost identical dashboard. This interior didn’t need a major overhaul anyway with its futuristic design and attractive presentation. On the other hand, it gains some interesting technological news: the next-generation MBUX system increases its artificial intelligence capabilities and can now learn from your conversations with the driver or passengers. From the first half of 2023, the car will have a digital recognition system to identify the driver. Mercedes also announces a higher level of equipment with, as standard, a reversing camera and USB ports. In the German press release, LED optics are still optional, but this could differ for the French market.
Only electrified motors
The new Mercedes A-Class now features a range of fully electrified engines. All gasoline and diesel units connect to at least a 48-volt electrical system with a 10 kW starting alternator. Enough to gain a few g/km of CO2 and deciliters of consumption according to the WLTP standard, although the figures announced by the press release are still quite high in absolute terms (there will be a penalty in the entire non-rechargeable hybrid range).
The A250 e plug-in hybrid version benefits from greater autonomy in 100% electric mode thanks to improved batteries (between 70 and 82 km depending on the version). Mercedes France informs us that the 220 and 250 petrol versions will not be marketed in our market, nor will the 220d.
Finally, the 306-horsepower 35 AMG version also switches to 48-volt electrification. But here too, the gain in CO2 and consumption is not significant on paper (between 184 and 196 g/km depending on the version). The 400-horsepower A45 S is not electrified unlike all other variants. Now it remains to know the prices of this restyled A-Class.
Caradisiac, partner of the Paris Motor Show
As in 2018, Caradisiac is once again a partner in 2022 of the Mondial de l’Auto which will take place in Paris from October 17 to 23. Caradisiac’s editorial team will thus move to its own stand for the duration of the show to analyse, dissect, photograph and film all the new models. And this, of course, will also be an opportunity for you to come, as you are used to, to meet our journalists. What new or used car to buy? They will answer all your questions. Until then, we will give you in Caradisiac all the information that we have been able to obtain from the manufacturers about their new models.
